Town Hall

In its present-day form is Late Gothic. It was constructed in several stages between 1290 and 1504 and in the early 17th century. It ranks among the finest town halls in Europe. Its elevations are ornately sculpted (the artistic motifs are related to the town halls' functions as a seat of the city's court and municipal government), and in the past has also had painted decorations.

Many of the interiors are well preserved and well worth visiting, e.g. Sala Mieszczanska (bourgeoisie hall), Sala Ksiazeca (dukes' hall), and several chambers (Izba Wojtowska - headman's chamber, Izba Radnych - city councillors' chamber).

A famous pub, Piwnica Świdnicka, is located in the south elevation (renovated in 2006). Adjacent to Ratusz is the so-called Nowy Ratusz (new town hall), built, to the design of F.A. Stüler, on the site of Bazar Plociennikow (linen makers market) in the years 1860-1863. Architectural fragments of the early-Renaissance city scale are incorporated in its elevations.
