Lower Silesia Region

The territory of Lower Silesia covers the south - western part of Poland and encompasses a large portion of the Sudeten mountains range. Its convenient geographical location and natural communication routes encouraged early settlements of Neolithic man. In the year 1000 a bishopric had been established in Wroclaw and its new status accelerated the town's development. As a result the town became the principal administrative, economic and artistic centre of the region. Presently Lower Silesia, thanks to its natural resources and the highly developed industrial infrastructure, attracts investors from all over the world. International contacts are facilitated by a dense network of roads and waterways connecting the region to the Baltic Sea ports.

Through the centuries Lower Silesia has been a common ground for various cultural, political and economic influences. This blend of tradition gave the land its special and distinctive quality. The region acquires special importance in the context of Poland's drive for accession to the European Union. The new reality means that the region is beginning to live according to a different rhythm and the political, cultural, economic integration gives its population a chance for a better future.
