What's on
"The Solidarity movement, which was founded in Gdansk and spread quickly throughout Poland and its neighboring countries, led to the toppling of the communist government in Europe. To celebrate the movement's 30th Anniversary, Wroclaw will hold a concert at the location of its first Solidarity strikes in 1980 at the MPK (public transportation) warehouse. Headlining will be 80s rock legends Perfect, Dzem, Lech Janerka, as well as contemporary group Strachy na Lachy." - 27.08.2010; MPK Warehouse, ul. "The "look up" project was launched recently in Wrocław. Its aim is turn attention of passersby to interesting, historic architecture details of the city buildings. The idea is to put special artistic glass tiles just at the places worth of seeing. The tiles bear the inscription in Polish “głowa do góry” and in English “look up”. The 50x50 cm tiles are placed in sidewalk pavement (so it is hard not to notice them) and direct the pedestrians’ attention up to interesting details of 18th and 19th century houses." more... - Text comes from www.wroclaw.pl
"RadioWroclove.com is the first English-speaking station in Poland that broadcasts round the clock. The place we reach you from is Wrocław – the city of meetings that has always been open to a mixture of cultures, languages and religions. The city that spins the most twisted – but the most fascinating – stories imaginable, and where the people are still trying to work out the true meaning of the word “identity”. RadioWroclove deals with a wide range of issues, sometimes seriously, more often not. Bitter-sweet, sweet-and-sour, sour-Polish, Polish-Polish, Polish-English, English-Swedish,Swedish-Asian, Asian-Czech, Czech-European, European-traditional, traditional-modern, modern-analogue, analogue-digital, etc, etc, etc. Anything, really. As long as it’s interesting." From 1st to 28th February - more... - Text comes from www.wroclaw.pl
"Having made Poland his second home, we are lucky that charismatic British violinist Nigel Kennedy plays across the country rather often. His next visit to Wroclaw will be in September, when he will present the original material from his latest album "Shhh!" along with the Nigel Kennedy Quintet. Part of the Ethno Jazz Festival, a continuous event with concerts throughout the year. Tickets 90 - 160 zloty." 21 september 2010 - Hala Ludowa, ul. "One of the many wonderful things about Wroclaw is its incredible variety of culture, both classic and avant-garde. This month's biggest festival combines both. Every year Wratislavia Cantans' artistic director Paul McCreesh invites world-class classical musicians to this prestigious event to perform early music in a modern context. This year look for concerts by Voclae Ghent Collegium, Akademie Fur Alte Musik, and the SInfonia Varsovia led by Marc Minkowski - 4-12 September - more... - Text comes from www.wroclaw-life.com

"The installation by the American artist Jana Napoli, comprising 350 drawers, is a poignant testimony to the cataclysm that devastated New Orleans five years ago: on 29 August 2005, the city was ravaged by the hurricane Katrina: 1.3 million people were forced to leave their homes, 1836 died. The artist, native of New Orleans, returned to the city soon afterwards and was deeply moved by what she saw. In an effort to commemorate the tragedy of the city and its residents, she collected hundreds of drawers spread among the debris in water and mud, and reassembled them to create an installation intended as amonument to the victims. She explains” “These drawers are simultaneously full and empty: they no longer contain – as they used to – clothes, lingerie, cutlery, love letters, but they are filled with the memory of time and place”". 15.07.2010 - 5.11.2010 - more... - Text comes from www.en.mnwr.art.pl
